Charles B. Wang Community Health Center. New York

The Charles B. Wang Community Health Center is our fourth commission by the Chinatown Health Clinic Foundation. The renovation of this six-floor cast iron building includes general medicine, OB/GYN, and mental health services, along with administrative offices. We replaced building systems and installed a new elevator, and used the building’s multi-floor structure as an organic way to break clinical areas into specialties, allowing for intimate settings and calm waiting areas which feel similar to private medical practices. Because the building is in a Landmarks District, the exterior restoration included replacing an original center column at the facade which was removed in a previous renovation, repairing the cast iron and brick facades, and selecting paint colors and lighting for the facade to emphasize the unique cast iron detailing.
