O'Dwyer Gardens Community Center. Brooklyn

Our renovation of O’Dwyer Gardens Community Center included the replacement of solid walls with a glazed storefront to open the busy core of the existing community center. The new design allows all program rooms to be visible from the central lobby, emphasizing a sense of security and allowing a small staff to monitor the entire center. Boldly colored glazed wall tiles delineate the utility spaces between the rooms and emphasizing the continuity of the open space. A new stainless-steel vestibule and concrete canopy announce the center. The library, game room, meeting/classrooms, and computer and music rooms were enhanced with built-in furniture and new equipment. ADA-compliant restrooms and a new kitchen support the center’s growing population. The replacement of the heating, cooling, lighting, security, and fire alarm systems ensures that the center can continue to thrive.
