A Library With a View—Minus the Noise

Located along Jerome Avenue in the Bronx, the New Settlement Community Campus embraces its proximity to the elevated subway tracks rather than turning away. The second-floor library sits at eye level with the passing trains, offering a dynamic (and somewhat poetic) backdrop of city life—without the noise. A carefully designed aluminum window wall and acoustical isolation system ensure that the rush of the train can be seen but not heard, preserving the library’s tranquil atmosphere for Pre-K to 12th-grade students.
