Preserving & Restoring The Emerson

The Emerson’s brick facades were laid up originally with struck horizontal joints and flush vertical joints, a feature that gave the facades great depth and texture. Using pre-mixed pigmented mortar matching the original, the facades were selectively and carefully repointed to preserve this unusual treatment. Over one hundred and forty new wood windows were installed, matching the configuration, detailing and color of the originals. The original terra-cotta cornice between the first and second floors was restored using restoration mortar and glazes matching the original details and finish.
