Weeksville Place Fieldtrip
Last week, our office took a field trip to Crown Heights for a site tour of our recently completed Weeksville Place—an 8-story building providing 45 affordable homes for seniors and families, including units reserved for households who’ve experienced homelessness. Located where the historic Weeksville neighborhood once thrived, the building’s expressive, geometric design honors the legacy of one of Brooklyn’s earliest free Black communities.
After touring the building, we walked a few blocks over to the @weeksvilleheritagecenter , where we learned more about the neighborhood’s remarkable history and explored the preserved 19th-century homes—powerful reminders of Weeksville’s role as a thriving, self-sufficient community of free African Americans.
It was a meaningful day that reminded us of the power of thoughtful design to reflect and uplift the communities it serves.
