1561 Walton Avenue. Bronx

Continuing their deep commitment to providing quality affordable housing in the Bronx, the Settlement Housing Fund and the Briarwood Organization partnered to develop the 60 units of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments as Quality Housing. 1561 Walton is a new construction, 11-story affordable housing building in the Mt. Eden neighborhood of the Bronx. The triangular-shaped lot is the result of historic overlays of zoning that creates unusual property lines and in turn, a building form that references the street line as well as the site configuration. The design of the building breaks the Walton Avenue façade into four separate planes, differentiated through brick colors that form a gradient. By revealing the edges of the planes, corner windows were introduced into each living room.
