Bedford Green House II. Bronx

This project will offer housing to chronically homeless single adults and families affected by mental illness and substance use disorder. A majority of the building units are reserved for low-income seniors. Shared common spaces, including a library, resource center, gym, and a community playground, foster community among residents. A rear courtyard, accessible to Bedford Green House Phase I and II, encourages interactions between the residents of both buildings. Located on the ground floor, a health clinic with its own entry and street presence will serve the public. The building’s mass is articulated into two distinct volumes. A faceted brick façade blends with the scale and identity of the neighborhood, while a recessed cast-in-place concrete volume adds height to the building. A solar panel array as well as integrated plantings can be found on the setback terraces. The building is targeting LEED Gold certification.
