Civitella Ranieri Foundation. New York

To convert a ground-floor delivery warehouse to the New York City office of an artist residency program, we designed a completely new interior and new exterior windows and doors. The staff of the center functions in a highly interactive manner, which led to our solution of a single large room, subdivided with low partitions, with closets and service rooms opening off of it. The building is located in Tribeca North Historic District, so the exterior is designed to be in keeping with the character of the neighborhood. Deeply recessed new windows emphasize the muscularity of the building’s original load-bearing masonry and cast-iron piers.
