Honoring Judith Edelman on Her Birthday

Today we celebrate the birthday of our founder, Judith Edelman (1923–2014). A trailblazer for women in architecture, Judith dedicated her career to shaping housing, health clinics, and community spaces for New York City’s most vulnerable populations—values that continue to guide ESKW/A today.

When asked about one of her favorite projects back in 2012, she fondly recalled designing a house in Bethesda for her sister-in-law: “It had great, great spaces and consistency of materials. It’s in the woods, even though I generally don’t like the woods that much. The house was on a sloping site in an enclave.”

Her legacy lives on—in our projects, our mission, and the generations of architects she continues to inspire.
