Reflecting on the CHEERS Gala with Providence House
We’re still reflecting on the incredible CHEERS Gala with Providence House—it was an unforgettable evening, full of generosity, celebration, and community. We’re so proud of our partner Kimberly Murphy, AIA, for being honored, and we wanted to share some final words from Kimberly herself:
“ It was an unforgettable night, and I’m deeply honored to have been recognized. Seeing the generosity in the room and knowing that PH surpassed their fundraising goal was truly inspiring.
Working with Providence House on the Lexington Avenue Shelter is a career highlight—an opportunity to design with empathy, purpose, and care for generations of women who deserve safety, dignity, and community is everything.
ESKW/Architects has been partnering with Providence House since 2021, when we first explored how the Lexington Avenue properties could better serve their Women’s Justice Program. From the moment we met the PH team and learned about their trauma-informed, gender-responsive Sanctuary Model, I was moved by the dignity, respect, and courage at the heart of their work. We fell in love with the mission and couldn’t wait to help bring it to life.
Through workshops with residents and staff, we developed a building designed around safety, support, and community: five distinct “neighborhoods” of private bedrooms and shared spaces, each shaped by the voices of those who will live there. This project isn’t just a shelter; it’s a place born from vulnerability, trust, and hope, and designed for women to feel valued and supported as they rebuild their lives.
Thank you to Providence House for your partnership and trust, and to everyone who contributes time, energy, and resources to make this project a reality. Your support is helping build something truly meaningful—a home and a community where women can thrive. “
